Pin to Pin Shorts

Does anyone believe pin to pin shorts are a credible failure and/or concern. I work on satellites so it is strongly emphasized to assure that pins with voltage potentials and pri/rdnt are not adjacent to one another. However, this subject can become quite arguable depending on who you talk to.
