Does anyone have any experience of using the reliability module of NEPLAN for system reliability calculations?

My client uses NEPLAN for load flow, short-circuit and transient stability analysis quite happily. We are now trying to use the reliability module to calculate the MTBF and average outage time at delivery points on an electricity distribution network.

Starting with an incredibly simple test network (five series elements and two parallel elements) we can calculate by hand the first and second orders using a minimal cut-set method (and deleting the first order overlaps) to determine the exact MTBF.

But when we ask NEPLAN to do the same painfully simple analysis it returns an MTBF that is slightly different (a fraction of a percent lower). Our NEPLAN technical support says that this is due to 'deviations' caused by the algorithm.

If NEPLAN cannot get the 'correct' answer for a simple network where we know what the answer should be, how can we have confidence in the figures produced for a very much larger network?

Any ideas anyone?
