Trane, a business of American Standard Companies and a worldwide manufacturer of air conditioning and building management equipment and systems, has an immediate opening for a Design Reliability/Test Engineer in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Responsible for evaluating the reliability of new HVAC product designs such as water chillers, air handlers, and compressors. Provide mechanical design and reliability leadership by working with new product development teams to identify reliability improvement opportunites, recommend design alternatives, and quantify improvements in reliability.
· Provide mechanical design expertise focused on product reliability improvement.
· Conduct failure analysis of components, including stress and root cause analysis.
· Review engineering designs and propose modifications to achieve reliability goals.
· Conduct reliability testing on systems and components to identify sources of unreliability and quantify reliability improvement.
· Organize and lead teams to execute the DFR (Design for Reliability) process.
· Develop reliability/design verificaiton plans for each new design based on product design requirements and reliability goals.
· Perform design FMEAs to identify critical failure modes and recommend design changes to improve product reliability.
· Recommend and carry out design changes to improve reliability of existing products.
· Manage product failures and root cause analysis by using FRACAS (Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System) database.
· Serve as liaison between Design Engineering and Manufacturing/suppliers to resolve reliability issues for existing/new designs.
· Lead reliability/failure anlaysis review meetings.
· Create system/component operating profiles and develop reliability design requirements by instrumenting equipment in the field and analyzing field failure data.
· Own the reliability scorecard for major New Product Introduction (NPI) development projects and report status to management.

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related technical discipline required. MS degree preferred. 3 years of experience in product development/design or test engineering required. 5+ years of experience is preferred. Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills required. Expertise in machine design, system design, test methods, control algorithms, and manufacturing processes preferred. Knowledge of reliability testing techniques required.
Experience with finite element (FE) analysis a plus. Six Sigma Green Belt certification a plus.
