Am carrying out FMEA for rotating machinery. Where sample of previous failures is large I use internal data for assessing 'Occurance'. The problem arises for potential failure modes, where little or no previous datas is avaiable. I have the ORDEA data book which lists the failure data of large population of equipment. However the data is presented on Failure modes and not causes. Will it be correct to use an occurance number that is applicable to a particular failure mode across all failure causes? (it does not appear right to me, hence the query as there seems to be no way to divide that mode to unique causes).
