View Full Version : Repairing Items in Standby Containers

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a simple standby container with two blocks. Trying to figure out what the difference in total number of system downs is for hot standby and cold standby.

I'm trying to figure out how to correctly set up the repairs. Repairs should only occur when both blocks fail, then they should both be repaired. The original active block should be the new active block upon replacement.

How can I set up the repair for these blocks so that I achieve this effect? I only want repairs to occur on system down. Should I set the container to have the repairs? CM only upon inspection, which occurs only at system down?

I've tried a variety of different things which all yield different answers and cannot figure out exactly the program logic with the repairs here.

Thanks, Jennifer

Jennifer,
The following link might help clarify some doubts of how the simulation works with standby containers http://www.weibull.com/SystemRelWeb/containers_in_simulation.htm.

A few comments:
* The failure/maintenance properties for the container are associated with the switch so from your description you won't be setting those properties.
* It seems like you are on the right track. The corrective maintenance policies for both the active and the standby need to be set to correct "upon inspection" and inspections "upon system down" performed.
*Upon failure of the active, the standby will be activated, upon failure of the standby, the system will fail and both components will be fixed at that point.
*A switch action will occur whenever there is block that can be activated so that whichever block is fixed quicker, that will be the active block in the next "round"
*If the downtimes of both blocks are the same, then the block that brought the system now will be the active one (as the switch action did not take place since the quiescent block was already down)
Hope this helps,
