Standard formulas concerning failure rates of ceramic capacitors depends of the ratio between applied voltage and rated voltage in the power of 3 (and temperature issues as well).
In our company the design guideline allow us to apply a voltage of 80 % of the rated voltage.
If we choose to change that guideline to 100 % of the rated voltage - we can expect a higher failure rate (approximately twice of the value at 80 %) according to standard formulas.
What other risk should we be aware of if we choose to apply voltage up to (or even above)the rated (specified) values and does the risk differ from type of ceramic capacitors (COG, X7R, etc)?
