reliability based design

i have to calculate the reliability for the component based on the design based reliability. so what type of failure data i have to collect.can anyone help me ..

This is a broad question. you might need different anlayses techniqes to answer your question.

- Is the product currently in the field? Do you have field data of failures and survivors?
- Have you tested units of the product? What were the failure times of those that failed and the times of accumulated time of those that didn't fail?
-Were the test condition and stress levels the same as those that would normally be experienced by the product in the field/customer application?
- Were you making changes (redesings/imporvments) on the same units that were tested or were redesigns made on new prototypes and new units were tested?
- Are there multiple failure modes involved? Can you identify the failure mode that caused each failure?
