View Full Version : Threaded Fasteners: Reliability of Locking Methods

No maths for a change, just plain common sense I hope!

Item A is fixed to Item B using machine screws into threaded holes in B.
Currently, the screws have helical spring-type lockwashers under the heads, with a plain washer under that.

I say that this arrangement is not locking the screw at all, just hold ing it relative to the plain washer. Furthermore, I say that the plain washer should be removed, and the spring washer used alone.

Design and Engineering both say the Spring + Plain method is correct.

Can anyone direct me to an authoritative source to break this standoff?
