Mechanical Reliability Engineer
Responsibilities of Position
· Provide Reliability focus upon rotating machinery and pressure containing systems (vessels, tanks, piping)
· Prioritize Reliability Improvement efforts by understanding business opportunity impacts; uptime, rate, quality, cost to maintain, and frequency-of- failure that affects stable operations.
· Identify Critical Equipment and develop / implement Reliability and Maintenance Strategies (Preventive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, Operator Monitoring, Critical Repair activities, and Spare Parts bills of materials quality assurance) to improve Mean Time Between Failures and Mean Time To Restore.
· Analyze failures and recommend corrective action.
· Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) teams and use 5-whys or the Apollo RCFA method where appropriate.
· Lead Reliability-focused Failure Modes and Effects Analyses teams where appropriate.
· Provides equipment technical support to meet Maintenance, Plant Engineering and Operations needs.
· Network with the Specialty Materials’ central Maintenance Excellence Department to continuously optimize the plant’s reliability-related work processes, programs and technologies. Standardized approaches are emphasized.
· Establish and maintain good working relationships with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and Hourly personnel.
· Review the selection and installation of new mechanical equipment, piping and vessels in area of responsibility.

· Demonstrate strong problem solving and failure analysis skills.
· Reduce downtime and increase in MTBF of specific manufacturing equipment.
· Display team-building and influencing skills to achieve buy-in of improvement recommendations.
Attributes/Skills Required/Sought
· Good working knowledge in rotating equipment design, selection and performance assessment.
· Practical knowledge of vibration analysis, lube-oil analysis, and other mechanical equipment condition monitoring.
· Knowledge of non-destructive testing methods for vessels.
· Familiarity with reliability based maintenance.
· Experience in leading teams.
· Excellent verbal, writing and interpersonal skills.
· Very good functional capability in MicroSoft programs (OUTLOOK, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and some msProject desirable along with Visio)
· Added skills that are plusses:
1) SAP-PM experience for installing PM’s and analyzing data for costs, trends, etc.
2) Vibration Analysis Level 1, 2, or 3
3) Familiarity with Vessel Codes
4) Familiarity with Materials of Construction and Welding
5) Familiarity with OSHA’s Process Safety Management rule, CFR 1910.119, specifically the Mechanical Integrity element.
6) Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt.
Experience/Education Required/Sought
· BS degree in mechanical engineering preferred.
· 3+ years petroleum/chemical experience with strong emphasis in reliability based maintenance
