How do you justify the acquisition of a very expensive spare part on economic grounds? The part is to be kept in stock until a random failure occurs. If the part doesn´t exist and a failure does occur, the consequences will be very costly. Is there any software of yours that can handle this matter?
Thank you.

BlockSim handles the issue of spare parts and parts acquisition in addition to the delays/costs involved. It can also be used to analyze parts acquisition impact on system availability and costs.
You can review the following material for more info

Question is if the part is repairable. a 100% availability can never be given.
If the item is repairable, calculate the number of arisings distribution (use monte carlo if it doesnt fail random) and set a availability number that satisfies the management.
- If the product is more complex, use also scrap rates and level of repairs and different repair times.
If not repiarable, Same calculation only is repair time the same as life time...
Hope this helps...
