I have a source control document that requires "a maximum 10,000 FIT steady state failure rate at 40 deg Celsius". I understand the general concepts of accelerated life tetsing but what does FIT stand for?

FIT stands for Fault Isolation Test. FITS - Failures per 10^9 hours.

My references say FIT stands for "failures in time" (Meeker & Escobar, 1998, p. 30). I agree that the units are failures per 10^9 units of time.

Best wishes,
